Brief Introduction

Cheng Jinhua, Doctor of the Science of Law (JSD) from Yale University, USA, is currently Vice Dean of Graduate School, SJTU, Distinguished Professor and Doctoral Supervisor of KoGuan School of Law School, SJTU, as well as Vice President and Researcher of The China Institute for Socio-Legal Studies, SJTU. His academic part-time positions include Vice Editor-in-Chief of "Journal of Shanghai Jiao Tong University (Philosophy and Social Sciences Edition)", member of Academic Committee of Shanghai Law Society, Deputy Director of The Institute of Social Sciences of Shanghai Law Society, meanwhile he also acts as the member of the Shanghai Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the member of the Standing Committee of Shanghai Municipal Committee of The Revolutionary Committee of the Chinese Kuomintang, and Chairman of Xuhui District Committee of Shanghai Municipal Committee of The Revolutionary Committee of the Chinese Kuomintang. He once taught at the School of International Finance of East China University of Political Science and Law (ECPUL), served as a Visiting Professor at the Law School of University of Chicago, and was temporarily appointed as Assistant to Chief Prosecutor of Pudong New District People's Procuratorate in Shanghai. His research interests cover empirical legal studies and legal sociology, including judicial system, law and finance, lawyer and law firm, relations between central and local governments and other issues. He has published dozens of academic papers in Chinese and English journals, such as Social Sciences in China, Chinese Journal of Law, China Legal Science, Sociological Studies and The China Review, etc., and authored States, Intergovernmental Relations, and Market Development: Comparing Capitalist Growth in Contemporary China and 19th-century Untied States (New York: Palgrave MacMillan, 2018) and other books, meanwhile he has presided over research projects under the National Social Science Fund of China (NSSFC) and Humanities and Social Sciences Research Project of the Ministry of Education, and has been selected into the Young Scholar Program of National Major Talent Project, "New Century Excellent Talent Support Program" of the Ministry of Education, "Distinguished Professor of Shanghai Higher Education Institutions (Oriental Scholar)," and Shanghai "Shuguang Scholar" and other talent programs.
